How to Trust God When Life Doesn’t Make Sense
Introduction
Sometimes life throws us into situations that feel impossible to understand—loss, setbacks, confusion, unanswered prayers. In those moments, trusting God isn’t always easy, but it’s exactly what faith calls us to. The Bible reminds us again and again: even when we don’t see the full picture, God is still good, present, and in control.
1. Lean Not on Your Own Understanding
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5–6
Trusting God starts with acknowledging that our perspective is limited. When things don’t add up, we’re called to rely on His wisdom, not just our logic.
2. God’s Ways Are Higher
“‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord.” — Isaiah 55:8
God doesn’t always work in ways we understand—but His plan is always good. Trusting Him means accepting that there is a bigger picture we can’t yet see.
3. Remember His Past Faithfulness
“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.” — Psalm 77:11
One of the best ways to build trust is to look back. When we recall what God has already done in our lives, we find the courage to believe He will come through again.
4. God Is Close to the Brokenhearted
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
In seasons of grief or confusion, God isn’t far—He’s closer than ever. He meets us right where we are and offers comfort that surpasses understanding.
5. Trust Is Built in the Waiting
“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” — Psalm 27:14
Waiting on God is never wasted time. It's where our faith grows deepest—where trust is stretched, refined, and strengthened.
Final Thoughts
You may not have all the answers today—but God does. Trust is not about clarity; it's about surrender. As you walk through confusing, difficult seasons, know this: He sees you, He’s with you, and He’s working all things together for your good.
